Frequently Asked Questions
What time should I arrive for my appointment?
Arriving 5-10 minutes before your scheduled appointment will give plenty of time for a consult and to fill out your client intake form. Please do not arrive more than 15 minutes early.
What kind of massage is best?
Everyone is different! Some may respond well to cupping, where some may respond well to a lighter or deeper therapy. This is something we can discuss during our consultation or before you book your appointment!
What if I pass gas during my session?
No worries! Massage often stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, your “rest and digest” response, which sometimes leads to tummy gurgles and toots.
Should I talk during my massage?
That is up to you! Some people like to talk during their session and some people like to fall asleep. Either way is totally fine- the time is yours!
What if I need to use the bathroom?
We always recommend that you use the bathroom before your session begins. However, sometimes you just gotta go! In that case, you will be provided with a robe so you can comfortably walk down the hall to do your business.
Can I ask for more pressure?
Absolutely! Please don’t be afraid to let us know if you need more or less pressure, or if you are uncomfortable at any time. Making adjustments throughout a session is easy and we want to make sure you are comfortable and enjoying every minute of your massage.
What kind of training did you receive?
To become a Massage Therapist in NY we had to go through an extensive massage therapy program by completing 1,000 hours of instruction, 150 hours of practicing on a person, a CPR course, and passing the state licensing exam. For license renewal, we must complete 36 CE hours every three years. We are always learning, improving and broadening our skill-set!
Do I have to take my clothes off?
No, if you do not feel comfortable taking your clothes off, you can stay fully clothed! If you decide to undress you can do so at your comfort level. You will be draped with a sheet and blanket throughout the session. If you prefer to leave your clothes on, it’s best to arrive in loose clothing with no bra.
Isn’t massage just to help you relax?
Yes! However, there are many more benefits including:
decreased muscle stiffness, joint inflammation, pain and soreness
preventative care
decreased blood pressure and heart rate
reduced stress, anxiety and depression
quicker recovery between workouts
increased flexibility and improved recovery from soft tissue injuries
